Ferris, an influential architectural renderer, showed a dimunutive man who, nonetheless, was master of all he surveyed, in this case an engineering wonder that studiously echoed Sullivan‘s recessed top floor, columns, and cornice. This pursuit of this effect of futuristic optimism is seen in Starett & van Vleck’s J.N. Adam store of 1948
